To everyone at Berks County FC,
Here we go again – what a rollercoaster it’s been.
After announcing at the end of last season that Ellis and I would be stepping away to focus on family, the news of the club’s promotion to Step 5 came as a surprise, thanks to a league reshuffle after two playoff attempts. Having worked so hard to get the team to that level, it was an emotional and difficult decision to come back – but one we couldn’t walk away from.
Balancing family life – especially after my wife and I welcomed our little one during pre-season – alongside running a business made things incredibly tough. We took a slightly different approach this year, aiming to build a young, competitive squad on a tight budget. That didn’t suit everyone, but it was the reality we faced.
Ellis had to step away due to work and family commitments – something I completely respected. Football can be ruthless, and not everyone sees what goes on behind the scenes. It’s a thankless task at times, but it's also addictive – full of highs and lows.
This season taught me more than the last two combined. While we eventually found our rhythm, it came too late. Drawing our final game after a comeback, only to concede in the 95th minute, was cruel.
Now, it’s time for a real change. I’ll be stepping away from the first-team managerial role and supporting Steve Kay and the new management team from a different angle – giving me more time with my family and our two boys.
Thank you to the players who stuck with it and gave everything. I’ve always believed football is about character, but it’s only in tough times that you truly see people’s true colours. This season made it clear who the genuine ones are – both from the past and present. But with the youth we’ve brought through, there’s a bright future ahead – just stick at it. Thanks also to the management team, the Committee, and all the matchday support – you’ve been brilliant.
Time for my first proper break in seven years. I’m going to enjoy it with my family – and when the time’s right, we’ll go again.
Thank you all
