Saturday May 5th
In a tense U9’s Shield final the Berks County Scorpions held on to claim their first trophy.
The match against a strong Whitegrove Tornadoes lived up to expectations following a very close league game earlier in the season.
The Scorpions went ahead in the second quarter with a long range effort from midfield dynamo Aidan Bell, however less than a minute later, the Tornadoes levelled making the score 1-1.
It remained all square deep into the third quarter following some fine goalkeeping from George Higgins. The Scorpions launched a counter attack and following a trademark mazy run, Max Lovell put the Scorpions ahead with a strike from just outside the box.
The Tornadoes applied pressure in the 4th quarter with the Scorpions holding a deep line and playing on the counter attack. With all involved wishing for the final whistle the Scorpions held on to lift the trophy.
